Mark Wingfield

'One of the UK's best new composers'
SPNM

Mark Wingfield, composer, improviser and electric guitarist, is one of the most original and eclectic talents on the British music scene. As a composer, he embodies a unique mixture of influences and backgrounds, with jazz, classical and world music having equal impact on his style. His collaboration with Lebanese singer Samia Afra on his CD Fallen Cities led to further interest in non-Western forms working with Turkish musicians in Istanbul.

His considerable experience performing and composing with European jazz groups such as SMQ, Scapetrace and his own group is mixed with his involvement in classical forms as both player and composer.

As a guitarist, he was described by Richard Newman in a Channel 4 television documentary as '"simply one of the best guitarists I've ever heard in my long career; essential listening'", and his improvisations are known for their compelling technical and melodic inventiveness.

His long-standing interest in the innovative use of technology in music has led him to create new and unique guitar sounds. This interest in new technology also led him to join the ground-breaking internet band ResRocket where he played with luminaries such as Dave Stewart, Tricky and Peter Gabriel.

He is now playing concerts with renowned harpsichordist Jane Chapman (a unique mixture of composition and improvisation) and with keyboardist René von Grünig on the Guitar Encryptions tour.
